As one of the series of Indonesia's G20 Presidency, the Ministry of Health held the 1st G20 Health Ministers Meeting (HMM) in Yogyakarta on June 20, 2022. The meeting began with opening remarks from the Minister of Health, Budi G. Sadikin, who delivered the discussion agenda, namely \u201cStrengthening the Global Health Architecture\u201d. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pandemic has made us realize the need for a strong global health system, sustainable funding and the establishment of a trusted network of data sharing platforms to face future health threats. To support the Strengthening of the Global Health Architecture, the Ministry of Health raised 3 priority issues for discussion at the Health Working Group (HWG), including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Strengthen the resilience of the global health system;<\/li>
  2. Harmonize global health protocol standards;<\/li>
  3. Expand global manufacturing and research centers for pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (PPR).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    L. Rizka Andalucia, Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices as Chair of the Health Working Group (HWG) of the 3rd priority issue also gave remarks on equal access to vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics (VTD) in all countries which is one of the problems and difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. VTD development and manufacturing are currently still dominated by developed countries, especially in the latest technologies such as mRNA vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Issue 3 of the HWG discussed global capacity building for VTD manufacturing and research to ensure regional and global equity. Several developing countries (such as Argentina, Brazil, India, South Africa and Indonesia) are keen to build a collaborative ecosystem of VTD manufacturing and research centers to strengthen global health resilience with ease of technology transfer, regulatory support especially during emergency situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Rizka also invited G20 member countries and international organizations to be part of this collaborative ecosystem to ensure equitable access and development of VTDs worldwide, and invited to attend and actively discuss at the 3rd Health Working Group (HWG) meeting to be held on 22-23 August 2022 in Bali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
