Padang - Based on Law No.36 of 2009 concerning Health Article 98 which states that the Government is obliged to foster, regulate, control and supervise the procurement, storage, promotion, and distribution of pharmaceutical preparations and medical devices, as well as based on the Government Work Plan and the Ministry of Health Strategic Plan 2015-2019 in realizing Healthy Indonesia, one of the strategic targets is increasing the independence, access and quality of pharmaceutical preparations and medical devices.
The meeting, which was organized by the Directorate of Medical Device and Household Health Supplies Evaluation on 4 to 6 September 2019 at the Grand Inna Padang Hotel, was opened by the Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, Dra. Engko Sosialine, Apt., M. Biomed, and attended by Director Representatives from 68 Hospitals in Padang, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Hospital Association (PERSI) and several resource persons who are experts in the Domestic Medical Device Industry.

In addition to attending the workshop session, the Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, accompanied by the Director of Medical Device Assessment and Household Health Supplies, Dr. I Gede Made Wirabrata, S.Si, Apt., M.Kes., M.M., also visited the Indonesian Production Medical Device Exhibition organized by the Directorate of Medical Device Assessment and Household Health Supplies. Medical devices circulating in Indonesia are currently still dominated by 90% imported medical devices. Currently, there are 274 domestic medical device industries, with the types of medical devices that can be produced include 335 types of medical devices, both low to medium technology such as wheelchairs and hematology reagents.

In addition, some domestic medical device products have been able to produce high-tech medical devices such as anesthesia machines, heart stents, surgical threads, orthopedic implants, and balloon catheters which will be able to penetrate the export market and be able to compete with products from other countries.
