In order to accelerate efforts to increase public awareness, concern, knowledge and skills about the selection and use of drugs appropriately and rationally, on November 13, 2015, the Minister of Health has launched the Smart Community Movement Using Drugs (GeMa CerMat). The declaration of GeMa CerMat was followed by socialization involving all provinces. The targets of the activity are community organizations, health professional organizations, government institutions or related stakeholders.

Along with the socialization, the appointment of Agent of Change (AoC) Pharmacists was also carried out with the hope that the AoC Pharmacists would have the commitment and ability to influence community behavior to increase the rational use of drugs. As of September 2019, the GeMa CerMat Socialization has been carried out in 214 districts/cities in 34 provinces, with a total of 5,450 GeMa CerMat Agent of Change (AoC) trained.

In order to follow up on the AoC Pharmacist Debriefing and GeMa CerMat Socialization activities in 2016-2018, an activity to Optimize the Role of Pharmacists as GeMa CerMat Agents of Change was carried out. This activity was carried out for monitoring and evaluation, as well as optimizing the role of AoC Pharmacists in each district / city after attending the GeMa CerMat Socialization meeting.

The participants of this meeting were the result of selection of AoC Pharmacists who attended the debriefing in 2016-2018. Selection is carried out in stages starting from the regency/city level, then the provincial level and continued to the central level.

From the selection, 100 AoC pharmacists were selected according to predetermined criteria, namely the frequency of education implementation, the number of people who received education, the development of educational methods, creativity and innovation programs in the field of community empowerment in order to increase rational drug use. The purpose of this activity is to provide briefing to improve the ability of participants who will be confirmed as Master AoC so that the AoC selected to participate in this activity can become a driver and role model for other AoCs in implementing GeMa CerMat. role model bagi AoC lainnya dalam melaksanakan GeMa CerMat.

The activity of Optimizing the Role of Pharmacists as GeMa CerMat Agents of Change was held for 3 days intensively on 7-9 October 2019, attended by 124 participants, consisting of 100 GeMa CerMat Agent of Change Pharmacists, representatives of the Central Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association, Regional Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association in Yogyakarta and central participants.

In this activity, participants will receive materials that will support and improve the ability of AoC in providing community education such as professional communication, public speaking, self-development and leadership. The selection of this material is adjusted to the needs of AoC pharmacists that have been submitted to the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Services directly or through the Provincial / Regency / City Health Office.

On this occasion, awards were also given for the role and contribution of AoC as individuals or as a team in the success of GeMa CerMat. This year's awards were given to the Sleman District AoC team, DI Yogyakarta and the Polewali Mandar District AoC team, West Sulawesi for the group category and Mrs. Hj. Umy Qalsum, S.Si., Apt. (Head of the Pharmaceutical Section of the Polewali Mandar District Health Office, West Sulawesi) for the Individual category.

This award and appreciation is given as an expression of gratitude for the cooperation and efforts that have been made to develop the GeMa CerMat program. Furthermore, AoC pharmacists are expected to continue to be active in educating and providing adequate information to the public about the correct use of medicines.
