Jamu is a cultural heritage of the Indonesian people that has been used for generations and developed from generation to generation, so that it becomes a product with high economic value, provides benefits and is a pride as part of the national identity.

Usaha Jamu Gendong (UJG) and Usaha Jamu Racikan (UJR) are business actors who use manufactured herbs and their own concocted herbs that are directly sold to the public. UJG and UJR do not require a license but must be registered to carry out their business, but business actors need to be organized and fostered.

The Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices through the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution continues to strive to provide technical guidance and competitiveness for UJG and UJR actors in providing safe, quality and useful herbal medicine as well as educating the general public regarding the National Movement for Fitness with Herbal Medicine to support the healthy living community movement so that the use of herbal medicine can improve the degree of public health and people's economy.

On June 12, 2022, held in West Jakarta. The Directorate of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution carried out educational activities on the Manufacture and Use of Safe, Quality and Beneficial Jamu which were attended by 200 participants, namely business actors in the field of traditional medicine, UJG-UJR supervisors at the health office and Puskesmas / village health workers and the community in the West Jakarta Administrative City area.

This activity is important in the midst of the government's efforts to educate and increase the use of safe, quality and useful herbal medicine so that it can play a greater role in improving public health and fitness and improving the people's economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this activity, representing the Director of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution, Chairperson of the Narcotics, Psychotropic, Pharmaceutical Precursors and Special Access Scheme Working Team, Liza Fetrisiani said that what needs to be considered by UJG and UJR actors and the public is how to use herbal medicine so that it can meet health requirements, which are safe for consumption, especially in the aspects of hygiene and sanitation in making herbal medicine.

Through this activity, it is hoped that UJG and UJR actors and the community can implement the use of herbal medicine processing that pays attention to cleanliness and health and the community can find out the benefits of herbal medicine for family health and fitness. “I hope that we can work together in fostering the use of safe, quality and useful herbal medicine to maintain family health and fitness,” said Liza.
