The government, through Government Regulation Number 14 of 2015 concerning the National Industrial Development Master Plan 2015-2035, has designated the medical device industry as a mainstay industry due to its potential as the main driver of the economy in the future. When viewed from the consumption of medical devices per capita, the domestic medical device market is still small when compared to other countries.
This is in line with Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Acceleration of Increasing the Use of Domestic Products and Products of Micro, Small and Cooperative Enterprises in the context of the Success of the National Movement of Proud to be Made in Indonesia in the Implementation of Government Procurement of Goods / Services, strategic steps have been set to host in our own country.
Therefore, the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals in the context of developing the domestic medical device industry, especially the MSME sector, held an activity "Facilitation of MSME Production Medical Device Development" in Solo on August 17-20, 2022. This activity was also attended by the Minister of Health, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Deputy Governor of Central Java and stakeholders such as GAKESLAB, ASPAKI, and MSMEs in the medical device sector.
In his remarks, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin encouraged all health care facilities to prioritize the use of domestically produced medical devices. This step is an effort to improve the nation's economy while encouraging the resilience of the health system, which is the third pillar of health transformation. "For government purchases, the President asked for around 40% of the budget to be used for MSME spending so that there is a turnover. For this reason, all medical equipment that can be produced domestically must be optimized," said the Minister of Health.

Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said he has prepared strategic steps to meet the need for domestically produced medical devices. First, by encouraging MSMEs to enter the technology and creativity-based industry. Second, by building a joint production house for MSME players. "So later the government and MSMEs can sit together to develop an ecosystem regarding the products needed by the government and the financing ecosystem," he said.
Meanwhile, in her report, Director General of Pharmaceuticals Rizka Andalucia said that the strategy for the resilience of medical devices is carried out by increasing domestic spending, especially for 16 types of medical devices out of 19 medical devices that can be produced domestically. Based on this strategy, the direction of medical device development is carried out in accordance with the top 10 Medical Devices by volume and by value. "One of the other important strategies to improve the achievement of resilience and independence of medical devices includes encouraging the development of medical devices produced by Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs)," said the Director General of Pharmaceuticals.
The facilitation of the development of medical devices produced by MSMEs aims to provide guidance to micro and small businesses of domestic medical devices to improve the quality of their products, socialization of policies related to the acceleration of the use of domestic medical devices, and campaigns in order to succeed the National Proud to be Made in Indonesia Movement.

In addition to the affirmative action of government support for MSMEs, this activity also included an exhibition of medical devices produced by MSMEs and seminars related to facilitating the development of MSME-produced medical devices. Then, CPAKB certificates were also given to 1 MSME producer of domestic medical devices, CPPKRTB certificates to 1 domestic PKRT producer industry, Edar License Numbers for 1 domestic medical device producer, and awards to 3 regional public hospitals in Central Java Province with the highest domestic medical device expenditure in the period January 1, 2022 - August 2, 2022.
During this event, the Minister of Health, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, accompanied by the Director General of Pharmaceuticals visited PT Akademi Teknik Mesin dan Industri (ATMI) Solo. The company, which began as a polytechnic, now produces medical devices used in hospitals such as beds, patient monitor screens, and others.

The Minister said that currently the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices has identified medical devices that can be produced domestically so that they can be included in the e-catalog and be widely used. "I have asked the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices to identify medical devices that can be produced domestically so that they can be included in the e-catalog. One of them is beds, all central and regional hospitals must use domestically produced beds," continued the Minister of Health. In addition to beds, medical devices that have been identified as capable of meeting domestic market share include anthropometry, gauze, cotton, and others. "Currently, we have purchased 300 thousand anthropometry to be distributed to health centers, Posyandu Prima and Posyandu throughout Indonesia," said the Minister of Health.
