In accordance with the mandate of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health, the government plays a role in ensuring that medical devices (alkes) and household health supplies (PKRT) in circulation must meet safety standards, be of good quality and useful for use and improve health security, be environmentally friendly and affordable.
For this reason, structured control of medical devices and PKRT is needed by involving many parties such as central and local governments, business actors, health workers in health care facilities, and the community directly. The public is expected to participate and play an active role in controlling the safety and quality of medical devices and PKRT in circulation to ensure that medical devices and PKRT circulating in the community meet the requirements.
Providing information and education on medical devices and PKRT continuously needs to be done so that public understanding can increase and can contribute to the control/supervision of unqualified medical devices and PKRT.
With the theme "Let's Get to Know Safe Medical Devices", the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals through the Directorate of Medical Device Control routinely organizes Communication, Information and Education Socialization on the Correct Use of Medical Devices and PKRT to health cadres and the community.
On October 6, 2022, IEC Socialization was held in Semarang Regency, Central Java, and October 7, 2022 in Pematang Siantar City, North Sumatra, which was attended by Director of Medical Device Supervision Eka Purnamasari. This activity was attended by more than 400 participants from the community, health cadres and community leaders.
The implementation of the activity was carried out by delivering material and continued with interactive discussions with the community and health cadres. Some points of material presented by the resource person such as:
- Use the product in accordance with the instructions for use and heed the warnings;
- Pay attention to and follow the instructions for use and safety instructions on packaging and labels;
- Ensure the product has a distribution license number (NIE) issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health;
- Do not easily believe in products that are advertised with exaggerated claims and offered at very low prices; and
- Checking the products used are safe and licensed through the Mobile Health Application.
The Director of Medical Device Supervision emphasized that if the public finds medical devices or PKRT that do not have a distribution permit or have a bad effect after use, it should be reported through the Alkes Mobile application. "Please if the community finds this, it can be reported to us through Alkes mobile, we will follow up with the local Health Office," said Eka. The socialization drew the enthusiasm of the residents who attended, residents actively discussed to gain more knowledge regarding the correct use of medical devices and PKRT. This can be realized due to good coordination between regional apparatus from the RT-RW level to the village in accommodating the residents who attend.
