In the last five years, the cosmetics industry has recorded positive growth, where in 2019 it was recorded that this industry managed to grow by 8.2% with the export value of local cosmetic products reaching US$516.99 million. Based on the Ministry of Health's e-licensing data, as of June 2021 there are 842 cosmetics industries that have Production Certificates, consisting of 618 class A cosmetics industries and 224 class B cosmetics industries. Most of these cosmetics industries are medium and small scale companies. According to its nature, the cosmetics industry is classified as a labor-intensive industry, relatively dynamic following trends in the market, has a high dependence on labor expertise and competence, and is sensitive to product image and brand.

The number and variety of cosmetic products in circulation are increasing. With the development of digital technology and the Covid-19 pandemic, online sales have become part of everyday life, including cosmetic products for skin health (skin care). This condition is an opportunity for the domestic cosmetics industry to increase marketing as well as a challenge for the domestic cosmetics industry to be able to improve competitiveness, both with fellow domestic cosmetics industries and with foreign cosmetics industries.

Therefore, the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution held a Cosmetics Industry Coaching Clinic activity which was held online in several batches and the 5th batch was held on September 1 to 2, 2021 which was attended by 49 cosmetics industries. The Cosmetics Industry Coaching Clinic activity presents resource persons from Higher Education (ITB), the Ministry of Industry, and Practitioners in the Cosmetics Sector. The activities consisted of webinars and consultation desks where participants could consult with the resource persons regarding the obstacles they were facing. The Cosmetics Industry Coaching Clinic activity is supported by the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) and the Indonesian Pharmacy Experts Association (PAFI) by providing Participation Credit Units (SKP) for participants amounting to 8.5 IAI SKP or 2 PAFI SKP, while the resource persons will get 4 IAI SKP.

This cosmetics industry coaching clinic activity is a form of comprehensive guidance from the Ministry of Health to encourage the development of the cosmetics industry, especially the PMDN cosmetics industry, in order to increase competitiveness and increase the capacity of cosmetics production facilities in producing cosmetics that meet safety, efficacy/benefit, and quality requirements. Through this activity, the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution hopes that the cosmetics industry will not only understand the presentation delivered by each resource person but can directly practice the material presented, so that the cosmetics industry in Indonesia can become a competitive cosmetics industry with quality products that meet safety, efficacy/benefit and quality requirements and become the pride of the Indonesian people.
