The government's role in ensuring the safety and quality of medical devices (Alkes) and Household Health Supplies (PKRT) is implemented in the provisions of distribution permits for medical devices and PKRT in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 62/2017. In addition to the government, the community must also play an active role in controlling the safety and quality of medical devices and PKRT in circulation because without the involvement of both parties, control is difficult to achieve.
Lack of knowledge and information about medical devices and PKRT, such as misperceptions of medical devices or PKRT advertisements, inappropriate use of medical devices and PKRT, not knowing the distribution license, how to use, store, dispose of properly and lack of awareness in reading the instructions for use are some of the problems in the use of medical devices and PKRT in the community.
Therefore, the Directorate General of Farmalkes through the Directorate of Health Equipment and PKRT Assessment carries out Communication, Information and Education Socialization activities on the Safety and Quality of Medical Devices and Household Health Supplies to the public and health cadres routinely in various regions, and on this occasion it was held in Depok City, West Java on September 30, 2021.
The activity, which was attended by 200 participants consisting of the community, health cadres including Health Service officers and attended by a member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Dra. Hj Wenny Haryanto, S.H., aims to provide education and increase public understanding in using Alkes and PKRT properly such as:
- Ensure the product has a distribution license issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health;
- Pay attention to and follow the instructions for use and safety instructions on the packaging;
- Store the product in a safe place, out of reach of children;
- Choose products that are economical and fit your needs;
- Do not easily believe products that are advertised with exaggerated claims.
With this education, it is hoped that it can increase the understanding of the community in using Alkes and PKRT correctly so as to avoid the effects of errors in the use of Alkes and PKRT such as inaccurate measurements, poisoning, allergies, goals not achieved and so on.
