Increasing the independence and use of domestic medical devices (alkes) has been the focus of the Government Work Plan and the Ministry of Health Strategic Plan since 2015. Increased independence, access and quality of pharmaceutical preparations and medical devices is one of the Ministry of Health's strategic goals for 2020-2024 to achieve the President's mission in improving the quality of Indonesian people, including strengthening the structure of a productive, independent and competitive economy.
The pandemic period encourages all components of the nation to innovate to help health services. In line with the implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 6 of 2016 concerning the Acceleration of the Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry, the Ministry of Health encourages and facilitates the downstreaming of medical device research to improve the fulfillment of medical devices in handling the pandemic. This has resulted in 8 ventilator innovators and 3 HFNC innovators obtaining distribution licenses and ready for use in health services, and a number of other ventilator innovators are in the process.
From the LKPP e-catalog data, it is known that most types of medical devices included in the top 10 by value and volume are able to be produced domestically, but based on transaction value, the medical equipment market is still dominated by imported products. Of the total value of medical equipment spending through e-catalogs, which is around 18.8 trillion, the total value of domestic medical equipment spending is only 12%, which is around 2.3 trillion.

The dominance of imported medical devices used in health services in Indonesia must be anticipated by strengthening the independence, competitiveness of the domestic medical device industry based on applied research and utilization of existing resources.
The Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices through the Directorate of Medical Device and PKRT Assessment held an Analysis and Evaluation of the Discussion of the Development of Medical Device Technology as one of the efforts made in anticipating industrial competitiveness and utilization of existing resources.
In addition, this activity is an effort to increase synergy between the Central and Regional Governments, and also as one of the continuous efforts in developing the domestic medical equipment industry.

This activity was carried out using the method of delivering information and discussions with relevant resource persons on October 13 to 15, 2021 at The Trans Resort Hotel Bali, and was attended by 31 central participants and 70 regional participants consisting of representatives of 34 provincial health offices and 36 central and regional public hospitals while still implementing health protocols.

Director General of Pharmaceuticals Arianti Anaya in her speech when she was about to officially open the event.
It is hoped that this meeting can be a promotional tool for the medical equipment industry to introduce its products to stakeholders and a means of discussing the current development of medical device technology. On this occasion, Director of Health Equipment and PKRT Assessment Sodikin Sadek gave appreciation and awards to hospitals that use the most domestic medical equipment as a form of motivation for other hospitals to continue to increase the use of domestic medical equipment.
