The dominance of men in the economy brings various impacts, one of which is gender bias which is more often detrimental to women. In an organization or company, women often hit a glass ceiling that prevents them from climbing the steps to a more strategic position. Whereas on the other hand, men are often facilitated with 'escalators' so that it is easier to rise to managerial positions or directors. Glass ceiling is a metaphor that describes an invisible barrier that prevents a certain group of people from getting strategic positions. That group of people is usually predominantly inhabited by women.
The issue of gender inequality in the industrial era 4.0 is very unfortunate. Therefore, on Monday, April 18, 2022 HerStory.co.id held a webinar entitled Breaking The Glass Ceiling: Women Leaders on Economic Empowerment with the hope that various stakeholders and the public will be able to understand the urgency of wider opportunities for women in future development projections.
The webinar was attended by Indonesian Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga, Editor-in-Chief of HerStory.co.id Clara A. Sukandar, Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices of the Indonesian Ministry of Health Lucia Rizka Andalusia, Head of Commercial Business Development of PT HM Sampoerna Tbk Rima Tanago, Director of Finance and Administration of PT Elnusa Petrofin Hanny Retno Hapsari, Director of Horticultural Seeds of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture Inti Pertiwi Nashwari.
On this occasion, the Director General of Pharmacology, Lucia Rizka Andalusia, gave a presentation regarding the condition and position of women in Indonesia's development and the importance of the role of women in this development, especially from the health sector, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, Rizka also conveyed the challenges in the gender aspect faced by women, especially working women in taking part in building the economy. A conducive environment/stakeholders to support women to occupy strategic positions due to competence and unlimited gender is very important, so that women have a greater opportunity to be able to contribute to economic development. Rizka advised that gender differences do not need to be overly concerned if we can show our performance well and we do all our work wholeheartedly. Of course we are not lazy and continue to want to learn both formally and informally, I think lessons in community life will be much more meaningful to all of us and will build our personality to continue working.
