In order to improve the quality of health services by ensuring the accessibility of safe, efficacious, quality, and affordable drugs in sufficient types and quantities, especially in the implementation of the National Health Insurance (JKN), a National Formulary (Fornas) is prepared which is a list of selected drugs needed and used as a reference for writing prescriptions for the implementation of health services in the implementation of the health insurance program.
Previously, Fornas was stipulated through Minister of Health Decree Number HK.01.07/MENKES/6485/2021 concerning the National Formulary (valid January 1, 2022). Then it was amended by Minister of Health Decree Number HK.01.07/MENKES/1970/2022 (effective March 1, 2023).
Fornas is reviewed and refined at most every 2 (two) years, to provide room for improvements to the list of drugs in Fornas in accordance with developments in science and technology in the fields of medicine and medicine, disease patterns, and health programs as well as improvements in public health status.
Therefore, on June 14-15, 2023, the Directorate General of Health through the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Management and Services held the "Inaugural Meeting of Fornas Revision" in Jakarta. In the revision of Fornas in 2023, a comprehensive discussion was carried out, not only discussing drug proposals but also reviewing drugs in Fornas 2021.
The preparation of Fornas 2023 is a revision of Fornas 2021, which has been in process with the opening of drug proposals through the e-Fornas web. The proposals have been received from hospitals, professional organizations, health offices and government agencies.
At this inaugural meeting, 11 therapeutic classes were discussed (consisting of 38 items in 65 dosage forms/strengths). The meeting, which was attended by all members of the Fornas Team consisting of professional organizations, BPOM, BKKBN, Kemenkes, and related ministries/institutions, was the first meeting in a series of Fornas Revision activities in 2023, the final results of which will be determined by the Indonesian Minister of Health.
