Medical devices are one of the important components in the implementation of health services. Advances in health technology have led to the development of sophisticated medical devices and treatments. Medical device technology that is developing today is in line with the development of IT technology from simple to high technology and is used in health care facilities and households. The development of the medical device industry must of course be in line with the improvement of national medical device product technology.
Various efforts to develop medical devices have been made, both by academics, government, business and also the community. However, there are still various kinds of fundamental problems faced in medical device development efforts. Especially related to the aspect of program sustainability to be implemented continuously from time to time.
In order to improve understanding of the use of medical devices, the Directorate of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience of the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices conducted a Workshop on the Use of Domestic Medical Devices to support the national movement of Proudly Made in Indonesia (BBI).
The event, which was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on May 30, 2022, was opened by the Director General of Pharmaceuticals Rizka Andalucia. Also attended by the Special Staff of the Minister of Health for Industry Resiliency, Prof. Laksono Trisnantoro, Plt. Director of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience Sodikin Sadek, Director of Medical Device Supervision Cut Putri Arianie, representatives of professional organizations, academics, and representatives from hospitals in Jabodetabek. This activity aims to display and socialize domestic medical device products and innovations to users and related stakeholders.
On this occasion, the Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices in her opening remarks said that the Ministry of Health has the task of increasing the growth of the medical device industry in the context of independence and supporting national resilience, especially the domestic medical device industry.
“For this reason, the Ministry of Health has followed up by issuing Minister of Health Regulation Number 17 of 2017 concerning the Action Plan for the Acceleration of the Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry, with the intention that the medical device industry in Indonesia grows and develops so as to be able to produce medical devices that are innovative, quality, safe and useful, have competitiveness and are affordable by the community,” said the Director General.
The Director General added that collaboration between industry and academics/universities or research institutions is expected to encourage innovation and development of domestic medical device technology in the context of developing the domestic medical device industry while at the same time increasing the competitiveness of domestic medical device products with more efficient research costs.
“Through the Workshop Meeting on the Use of Domestic Medical Devices to Support the National Movement of Proud to be Made in Indonesia, it is hoped that useful results can be obtained so that user knowledge related to technology and quality of domestic medical devices increases as an effort to encourage increased use of domestic medical devices in the implementation of government procurement of goods / services and get input from the user side of medical devices, namely vertical hospitals and RSUDs related to the use of domestic medical devices,” concluded the Director General.
This workshop activity includes exhibitions and discussions. The discussions carried out in this activity include:
- Discussion on “Priority Use of Domestic Medical Devices by Vertical and Regional Hospitals” by Dr. Soeharto Heerjan Mental Hospital (Vertical) and RSUD Cengkareng,
- Discussion on “Obligation of Government Hospitals to Use Domestic Medical Devices to Support Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2022” by the Secretary of the Directorate General of Health Services,
- Discussion on “The Role of Supervision of the Use of Domestic Medical Devices by BPKP” by the Director of Social and Disaster Management Supervision, Financial and Development Supervisory Agency,
- Discussion on “Quality Assurance Efforts for Domestically Produced Medical Devices” by ASPAKI,
- Discussion on “Efforts to Substitute Imported Products to Domestic Products” by Gakeslab,
- Discussion on “Higher Education as Innovative Center for Medical Devices” by IMERI University of Indonesia and Poltekkes Jakarta II.
- Discussion on “Support for the Sectoral Catalog of Medical Devices in Increasing the Use of Domestic Medical Devices” by the Head of the UKPBJ Bureau of the Ministry of Health,
While in the exhibition activities, Indonesian medical device products that will be displayed are superior products for health transformation such as ultrasound, anthropometry, ventilators, anesthesia machines, various BMHP (syringe, infusion, and so on), superior MSME products of medical gauze from the Pekalongan Kassa Association, and several innovative product prototypes. The Indonesian medical device industry occupies 6 (six) booth centers that will be filled collaboratively between the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, the Indonesian Medical Device Manufacturers Association (ASPAKI), the Association of Medical Devices and Laboratory Companies (Gakeslab), Paguyuban Kassa Pekalongan as MSMEs, along with around 56 domestic medical device companies.
