To accelerate the recovery of tourist destinations in Indonesia, especially Bali, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy are collaborating with Grab Indonesia and Good Doctor Technology Indonesia to hold a COVID-19 mass vaccination for 5000 tourism actors, online transportation partners and public transportation for the next week.
This collaboration is a form of public private partnership in which the private sector helps the government implement the COVID-19 national vaccination program. This partnership is expected to further expand vaccination coverage, so that herd immunity can be achieved soon.
Grab and Good Doctor established a vaccination center at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) in collaboration with the Bali Provincial Health Office under the supervision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
Director of Medical Device and PKRT Assessment Wirabrata also accompanied Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin who directly reviewed the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination. The Minister of Health revealed that this activity was established thanks to the collaboration of various parties including the Ministry of Health, the Bali Provincial Government, the Bali Provincial Health Office, the Bali Regional Tourism Office, the Bali Provincial Transportation Office, Grab, Good Doctor, and other related parties. Because, the Ministry of Health cannot work alone, of course, it needs help and support from many parties including the private sector.
“This is impossible for me or the Ministry of Health to do alone, but it must be done together with all of you. For this reason, the implementation must involve all components of the nation so that vaccination coverage can be accelerated and expanded,” said the Minister of Health.
For the establishment of this cooperation, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all parties involved. In the future, he hopes that collaboration and synergy across sectors and programs can continue to be built.
“Thank you to Grab and Good Doctor for being the first partners in the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination, I hope that partnerships like this will be increasingly built, because by involving all components of the nation, more people will be protected,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, who also watched virtually, revealed the importance of vaccination to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector, especially Bali. Because, with high interaction and mobility, tourism actors are very vulnerable to being infected with COVID-19. Vaccination is a great hope for realizing a safe and healthy tourist area.
“The COVID-19 vaccine is the most important part of the recovery of Indonesia's tourism industry. The availability of vaccines continues to be a source of hope for the community to return to a normal situation and encourage confidence that they can travel safely. We are very pleased with Grab's continued commitment and support for the tourism sector and creative economy since the beginning of the pandemic,” said the Minister.
The rise of the tourism sector is also a big hope for the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster. So that group immunity can be achieved immediately, he urged all people including tourism sector players to participate in every stage of the COVID-19 vaccination.
“When the tourism sector revives, Indonesia's economy will undoubtedly recover and people's livelihoods can be maintained. For the community, we urge them not to be afraid to be vaccinated because it is effective in suppressing the spread of the virus. Let us jointly support the national vaccination program to accelerate national economic recovery,” said Bali Governor, I Wayan Koster.
Neneng Goenadi, Country Managing Director of Grab Indonesia said that the COVID-19 vaccination activity this time was carried out by combining two methods, namely “walk-in” and “drive-thru”, which is the first in Indonesia. These two methods can target all elements of society.
“We do the two methods because we want to accommodate all the needs of the community, this is in accordance with our inclusive principles,” said Neneng.
In addition, this service makes it easier for the target because there is no need to get out of the car. At the registration stage, participants only submit their ID cards to be verified and fill out a screening sheet.
Next, the vehicle is directed to the health screening zone. At this stage, basic checks are carried out such as checking temperature, blood pressure and given some additional questions.
If deemed eligible, the target goes to the COVID-19 vaccine injection area. After the injection, the target then goes to the observation area. In this location, health workers and a mini ICU have been alerted. If certain symptoms or reactions appear, the target can give a warning by sounding the horn.
After observation and no symptoms appear, the target moves to the certificate collection area and then waits for the second round of injections, 14 days later.
The organizer ensures that the entire vaccination process is carried out by implementing strict health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance and providing hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers at the vaccination site. To prevent overcrowding, vaccination participants must arrive at the time specified in the invitation.
No serious side effects have been reported so far. The vaccination participants admitted that they did not experience any symptoms or reactions.
A number of tourism actors and online driver partners admitted that they were very enthusiastic about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Komang Sutrisno, an online driver partner, revealed that with high mobility and interaction, they need a vaccine to protect themselves and those around them from the potential transmission of COVID-19.
