In order to realize the resilience and independence of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry in Indonesia, the national company PT Oneject Indonesia (Oneject) received an export contract for disposable syringes (auto disable syringes/ADS) of 850 million units until 2022. Exports will be carried out in stages with a target of 300 million syringes in 2021.
The contract for the purchase of syringes came from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), a United Nations humanitarian aid and health agency. In addition, the company has secured an export contract for disposable syringes to the Ukrainian government.

Oneject President Director Jahja Tear Tjahjana said that the first shipment of syringes to UNICEF is targeted at 120 million syringes in the near future. The shipment was made in conjunction with a shipment to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health of 30 million syringes. This will bring total exports to 150 million syringes worth US$ 10.5 million in the near future.
"The first batch of orders to UNICEF and the Ukrainian government will be delivered simultaneously," he said. Regarding the company's syringe order by UNICEF, according to him, as an important moment for Oneject. Moreover, this syringe product has a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 60%. Moreover, these syringes will be supplied to various developing countries to support the Covid-19 global vaccination program.
"With a capacity of 1.2 billion ADS syringes and safety needles per year, Oneject ensures that the need for syringes for Covid-19 vaccination in Indonesia and for other needs is met. In fact, the company can increase the export of medical devices," he explained.
He added that the company also intends to increase syringe production capacity gradually to 2 billion syringes by 2022. "The addition of production capacity is only by increasing the number of machine lines, because the new factory building currently accommodates the plan, including for the production of other medical devices," he said.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that Oneject is currently importing its syringes. In the future, stainless steel is expected to be supplied from Morowali.
"Thus, the local content of Oneject syringe can increase to 80% later," Luhut said. Luhut said the government is determined that during this pandemic, as many medical devices and medicines as possible are made domestically.
In addition, Luhut appreciated Oneject and said that the export of ADS is a good step, amid the government's efforts to campaign for the Increased Use of Domestic Production (P3DN) and encourage exports of finished production.
"P3DN is important to do and must be supported by all parties in order to increase employment opportunities in this sector and be able to save foreign exchange and even increase exports which have an impact on the national economy as Oneject Indonesia has done," said Luhut.

"From local to global. This is the government's dream, the government's program as much as possible that we can make domestically," he said. Through the successful export of this syringe, Luhut hopes that in the future Indonesia's import needs will decrease. This is because currently most of the medical equipment in the country is procured from imported products.
Therefore, Luhut, who also serves as Chairman of the National Team for Strengthening the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN), emphasized the importance of support from all parties for the development of local products. He said, with the development of local products, it will not only penetrate the local market but also reach the global market. "So this will be able to save foreign exchange and even increase exports which have an impact on the national economy, as OneJect Indonesia is currently doing," he said.
On the same occasion, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin appreciated PT Oneject Indonesia for successfully exporting ADS to UNICEF. On the other hand, the government is committed to supporting export-oriented domestic companies. "I am proud that Oneject can sell its products to UNICEF, it proves that this company must have good corporate governance and competitive prices," said the Minister of Health.
