The Ministry of Health has made various efforts to encourage the strengthening of the competitiveness of the domestic medical device industry based on applied research and utilization of domestic resources. One of them is through cross-sector cooperation and related stakeholders to facilitate the domestic medical device industry to socialize Indonesian medical device products in the international market, open opportunities for Business to Business (B2B) and Government to Government (G2G) cooperation at the international level, and create market access for Indonesian medical devices abroad.
On June 21-23, 2023, medical device stakeholders are expected to participate in the Florida International Medical Expo (FIME) exhibition. Therefore, the Directorate of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience held a meeting "Promotion Coordination in the Context of Encouraging Investment in Domestic Medical Device Products" to discuss the determination of visitor targets, as well as efforts and strategies that can be made to produce optimal achievements.
In his direction, Director of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience, Roy Himawan said that based on the 2022 report, Indonesia's participation has encouraged potential domestic medical device transactions of USD 9.6 million at MEDICA 2022 and IDR 183.6 billion at Arab Health 2023. The Indonesian Pavilion has been visited by more than 900 visitors from 84 countries.
"To get a good and more visible impact, it is hoped that Indonesia's participation in international medical device exhibitions can run for at least 3 consecutive years until 2024. This shows that the potential for sales, investment, and cooperation of medical devices is still very broad," Himawan said.
Himawan added that the participation of the Indonesian medical device industry in international-scale activities will be able to provide positive exposure to domestic medical device products.
During the meeting, material was presented related to the Development of Indonesia's Medical Devices Trade Balance from the Directorate General of National Export Development, Ministry of Trade and the Potential of the Medical Devices market in North, Central and South America from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The participants of this meeting were business players in the medical equipment industry.
