The high transaction of imported medical devices in health services in Indonesia must continue to be anticipated with policies that regulate medical device spending in government-owned health service facilities and strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic medical device industry by continuing to innovate in producing medical devices that can compete in terms of quality with imported products with a good quality image. In addition, the quality of domestic medical devices is also strived to be continuously improved and have quality that can be accounted for through pre-market and post-market supervision.
In accordance with presidential instruction number 2 of 2022 concerning the Acceleration of Increased Use of Domestic Products and Products of Micro, Small and Cooperative Enterprises. The Minister of Health in the 3rd pillar is assigned to update policies in order to accelerate the increase in the use of domestic pharmaceutical preparations and medical devices.
In order to realize these instructions, the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices through the Directorate of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Resilience held a Business Matching activity in the context of Accelerating Shopping for Domestically Produced Medical Devices (PDN) and the Exhibition of Indonesian Production Medical Devices at Novotel Hotel in Manado city on May 09-11, 2023.
Also present at the meeting were representatives from health service facilities, selected Provincial/Regency/City Health Offices in the eastern region, public hospitals, associations and the medical device industry.
This activity was carried out to obtain input from the user side of medical devices (RSUD) regarding the use of domestic medical devices, convey the government's commitment through policies and supervision of the use of domestic medical devices, establish collaboration between medical device manufacturers and the government in supporting government programs and encourage the substitution of imported medical device products into domestic products.
The meeting was opened by the Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Dr. Dra. L. Rizka Andalusia, Apt, M.Pharm, MARS. In her remarks, Director General Rizka said that there was a large increase in the number of domestic medical device transactions.
"This activity has a very significant impact on the number of domestic medical device transactions that appear in the e-catalog. The transaction value of domestically produced medical devices increased approximately 5 times in 2021-2022 compared to 2019-2020," said Director General Rizka.
On the same occasion, Director General Rizka also opened and visited the Domestic Production Medical Devices Exhibition which was attended by 86 Domestic Production Medical Devices companies with superior products for health transformation such as ultrasound, anthropometry, ventilators, anesthesia machines, and various BMHP (syringe, infusion, etc.), especially products that are widely used in regional public hospitals.
Director of Pharmaceutical Security and Medical Devices Roy Himawan, S.Farm., Apt., M.K.M. also attended this meeting. In his presentation he said, "This meeting is one of a series of efforts to increase the knowledge of medical device users related to the technology and quality of domestic medical devices in order to encourage increased use of domestic medical devices in the implementation of government procurement of goods / services".
He also said that there are many benefits that we get from this activity in an effort to increase spending on domestically produced medical devices, since the first time this meeting was held in 2022.
In addition to the implementation of Business Matching and Exhibition of Medical Devices for Domestic Products, this series of activities was also filled with the delivery of material by resource persons, followed by panel discussions and awards to 3 (three) RSUDs with the highest value of use / spending on domestic medical devices in North Sulawesi Province, including Datoe Binangkang General Hospital, Manembo-nembo Hospital, and Liung Paduli General Hospital.
